Get all those essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants in your body in one shot with this delicious green smoothie!
There is tremendous nutritional value in every ingredient of this smoothie. Let's focus on two micronutrients that are especially abundant in kiwi and spinach. These are folate (vitamin B9) and vitamin C.
Folate (B9) is a B vitamin concentrated in beans and greens. It's good for brain development and muscle growth, as well as preventing anemia, certain cancers, and depression. We all need folate but demands for this vitamin increase during pregnancy to avoid congenital abnormalities in the fetus.
Did you know most mammals can produce their own vitamin C, except for humans, some primates, bats, and guinea pigs?
Vitamin C is necessary for the growth, development, and reappearing of all body tissues. It plays a key role in the formation of collagen, iron absorption, the proper functioning of the immune system, wound healing, and the maintenance of cartilage, bones, and teeth.
Vitamin c is partially destroyed by cooking, so if you're going to eat vitamin C-rich foods, try to eat them raw or cook them at low temperature for not too long.
